Description
Since its establishment in the year 1930, Al-Maqasid Islamic Charitable Hospital in Beirut has sought to provide high-quality health care to all segments of society. The hospital, upon its establishment, consisted of a modest, two-story building that housed 13 doctors and 10 nurses, to provide the Lebanese community with high-quality healthcare services. During World War II, the hospital was transformed into a medical center affiliated with the Lebanese Ministry of Defense.
In the year 1949, the Al-Maqasid Islamic Charitable Society in Beirut expanded the hospital building, to five floors, and put it on its correct path, to become what it is now.
Today, the hospital continues its legacy and growth in size, scope, and reputation, providing a full range of medical care to patients. It also continues to meet the increasing needs of society, between 1975 and 1990 and has also developed into a large teaching hospital. Today, the Makassed Hospital has become a full-service educational hospital, with 230 beds, located in a densely populated area in Beirut, and it is ranked among the best medical facilities in Lebanon, supported by more than 250 resident doctors and 685 administrative staff, and it serves nearly 15,000 inpatients and more. From 50,000 outpatient visits every year.
The main facility of the hospital consists of a six-story main building, with adjacent supplementary facilities and outpatient clinics. The hospital has been ISO certified for more than eight years and HACCP certification in 2014. It is also a member of the European Bone Marrow Council for Medical Research. Al-Maqasid Hospital has concluded cooperation agreements with The American University of Beirut Hospital, Beirut Arab University, and the Regional University Hospital Center, in addition to the University of Lille in France, in order to train specialists in medicine and surgery.
In parallel, the Makassed Association developed its health services, establishing, in 1983, the Social Health Office that provides comprehensive health services: primary health care, providing medicines and vaccines, mother and child care programs, and other services. The health office supervises five health centers, in addition to three mobile clinics, that provide health care in Beirut and the remote areas.
