- Biliary Pancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch Surgery (BPD/DS) is a weight loss surgery suitable for patients who are extremely obese and had not been successful in losing weight through dieting, exercise, or medication.
The procedure involves:
1. Removing a large section of the stomach - will make you feel full quicker which will avoid overeating.
2. Bypassing the upper part of the small intestine - will prevent the absorption of too many calories.
3. Changing the normal function of bile - will reduce the lipids absorption in your body.
- Gastric balloon - is a non-surgical procedure that involves placing a smooth, rounded silicon balloon into your stomach. This device will artificially fill a part of your stomach, which will prevent you from eating too much food.
- GABP ring implantation is a procedure that involves placing a band or ring around the stomach to prevent dilation of the gastric walls following sleeve gastrectomy or gastric bypass.
- Gastric Bypass Surgery - ( Roux-en-Y gastric bypass) - is a procedure that aims to create a small, upper stomach pouch that restricts the amount of food to be consumed. A section of the small bowel is bypassed, enabling the delayed mixing of food with digestive juices to avoid complete calorie absorption.
- Ileal Interposition is a laparoscopic bariatric surgery applied for patients with Type-2 Diabetes.
The procedure involves changing the physiological position of the last part of the small bowel (Ileum). The ileum is cut and joined very close to the stomach, which makes the undigested food enter firstly the ileum, stimulating the incretin gut hormone (GLP-1) secretion, which will, in turn, stimulate the pancreas to produce more insulin.
- Robotic Surgery, also known as Da Vinci Surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that replaces the traditional laparoscopic gastric bypass.
The advantage of this procedure is that requires just a few tiny incisions which reduces the risks of major complications, produces a lower rate of gastrointestinal leaks, and results in a shorter hospital stay.
