The Hrim - Kidney Hospital is nationally and internationally known as a Center of Excellence in Renal Transplantation and treatment of kidney diseases. In the past twenty years, it has been the hospital that most performs kidney transplants in the world.
The hospital was inaugurated in 1998, crowning the work started in 1983 by a group of professors from the Discipline of Nephrology at the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp), when they founded the Paulista Institute of Studies and Research in Nephrology and Hypertension (IPEPENHI). In 1993, this Institute was renamed, changing its name to Fundação Oswaldo Ramos, current maintainer of Hospital do Rim, a non-profit, philanthropic institution with administrative and financial autonomy.
Since the beginning of its activities, in addition to excellent service to its patients, the hospital is a field for teaching and research in several areas of knowledge.
The structure of Hospital Do Rim consists of 4 operating rooms equipped for transplants, urological and laparoscopic surgeries for the digestive system, as well as for cardiac and vascular surgeries. In addition to, 5 outpatient units, clinical analysis laboratory and pathological anatomy, imaging unit (x-ray; ultrasound; tomography and echocardiogram) in addition to a hemodynamic area.
