Liposuction Price Comparison

In this article you will read about:

  • What is Liposuction?
  • Who can Have Liposuction?
  • What are the Risks of Liposuction?
  • How Much Liposuction Costs?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes fat from specific areas of the body using a suction technique. The procedure is also referred to as lipoplasty and body contouring.

Liposuction isn't a solution for weight-loss or a weight-loss alternative. If you are overweight, it is more probable to lose weight with a balanced diet and exercise or through bariatric procedures than you would with liposuction.

You can be suitable for liposuction if you have extra body fat in particular spots but otherwise, your body weight is stable. Liposuction can also be used in some cases for breast reduction or gynecomastia treatment.

Liposuction doesn't help with cellulite dimpling or other skin texture irregularities and it will not remove stretch marks.

Am I a Good Candidate for Liposuction?

To be suitable for liposuction, you have to be healthy, without conditions that could be risky for the surgery — such as coronary artery disease, restricted blood flow, diabetes, or a weak immune system. Also, you must at least:

  • Be within 30% of your goal weight
  • Have elastic and firm skin
  • Not smoke

What are the Risks of Liposuction?

As with any plastic surgery, liposuction has major risks, such as bleeding and a bad reaction to anesthesia.

Possible complications of liposuction can be:

  • Uneven Contour. Your skin may end up bumpy or wavy because of irregular fat removal, bad skin elasticity, and unusual healing. These changes may be permanent.
  • Damage under the skin from the thin tube (cannula) that's used during liposuction may leave permanent spots on the skin.
  • Accumulation of fluids. Temporary "bags" of fluid (seromas) may appear under the skin. This fluid can be drained with a needle.
  • Numbness. You may be left with a temporary or permanent feeling of numbness in the affected area. Temporary nerve irritation can also be a complication.
  • Infection. Skin infections are not as common but still possible. Aggravated skin infection can be life-threatening.
  • Internal puncture. This happens when the tube/cannula penetrates too deeply and may puncture an internal organ. You may need emergency surgical intervention.
  • Fat embolism. Parts of loosened fat can leak into a blood vessel and travel to the lungs or to the brain. A fat embolism is a serious medical emergency and can be fatal.
  • Heart and kidney issues. Fluctuating fluid levels, as they are being injected and sucked out, can lead to potentially life-threatening heart, kidney, and lung problems.
  • Lidocaine toxicity. Lidocaine is an anesthetic often given with fluids injected during liposuction to reduce pain. Even though lidocaine is generally safe, in rare cases, lidocaine toxicity can happen, causing severe heart and central nervous system issues.
  • Another potential risk is a blood clot in your deep veins. Clots can be very dangerous if they travel to other organs, such as the lungs.

How to Choose a Doctor/Clinic for Liposuction?

Weight Loss Surgery
Choosing the place and the doctor to do your lipo procedure can be a tough choice and sometimes confusing.

There are a few tips that can guide you through this process.

  • Look for local and International Accreditations. This will suggest that the clinic has high work standards.
  • Look for clients' reviews and feedback. Search online and on social media what other people say about the clinic or the doctor. Are they satisfied or not? Contact personally previous clients and ask about their opinion.
  • Ask the doctor/clinic for their educational background, professional experience, before and after work example, and any other information that will prove their expertise.
  • Go to multiple face-to-face or online consultation with the doctor and prepare a list of question about the procedure such as: risks, complications, expected results, what can go wrong, what happens if something does go wrong, how much it will cost, are there any extra fees that will be charged after, will you have a contract or agreement where all the terms and conditions are mentioned, etc.
