Description
Burnside War Memorial Hospital is a private, not-for-profit community hospital that was established as a living memorial to the men and women of the District who gave their lives in the two World Wars, and all others who served. The hospital was made possible through the foresight of the City of Burnside and the generous gift of Attunga by Otto Georg von Rieben in 1944. Today, the hospital offers a range of services and clinics to care for and support the thousands of patients who choose to have their healthcare needs met there each year. The hospital's vision is to sustainably serve current and future generations of the Burnside and broader South Australian communities by delivering excellent outcomes for patients.
In August 2021, the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) recognized the high-quality care delivered to patients of Burnside War Memorial Hospital by awarding it another four years of accreditation through its compliance with the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards. The NSQHS Standards were developed by the Commission in collaboration with the Australian Government, states, and territories, private sector providers, clinical experts, patients, and carers. The primary aims of the NSQHS Standards are to protect the public from harm and to improve the quality of health service provision.
Burnside Hospital has achieved an outstanding result in this latest ACHS accreditation process, reflecting the ongoing hard work, professionalism, and commitment of the Board, management team, staff, and volunteers to providing safe, contemporary care to every patient, every time. The hospital has a wide range of services including Breast & Endocrine Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Ear, Nose & Throat Surgery, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Gynaecological Surgery, Obstetrics (Maternity) & Neonatal, Oncology, Ophthalmic Surgery, Oral Maxillary Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Pathology, Physiotherapy, Radiology, Sleep Centre, Urological Surgery, Short Stay Procedure Unit (Day Surgery), High Dependency Unit and many more. The hospital also has a Breast and Endocrine Centre which provides a comprehensive diagnostic, treatment, and support service for women and men with breast problems, including cancer.
