Description

Brotherhood of Santa Casa de Misericórdia de São Paulo: excellence in assistance, teaching and research.

Founded 460 years ago, the Brotherhood of Santa Casa de Misericórdia de São Paulo is a philanthropic, private, and secular institution, considered one of the most important hospital reference centers in Brazil.

Its trajectory is vast and is, from the beginning, linked to the development of the city. Important moments in the city's history passed through the institution. Santa Casa welcomed the soldiers of the Constitutionalist Revolution, actively participating in the “Gold Campaign for the Good of São Paulo” and welcoming the needy population with care in all medical specialties existing at the time.

The Brotherhood was also the birthplace of two of the most important medical schools in Brazil: the University of São Paulo (USP) and Escola Paulista de Medicina (Unifesp). Since 1963 it has been the headquarters of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Santa Casa de São Paulo, responsible for the training of more than 100 doctors per year.

The institution is a provider of services to the Unified Health System (SUS), and its philanthropic commitment means that all the resources obtained are applied in its hospitals, guaranteeing the continuity of assistance to the population. The organization serves patients from all over the state of São Paulo, and from other states in Brazil.
